Best places to shop in NYC and best Deli?
Okay, I’m going up to NYC in the summer.
1 I want some cool places to shop. Already planning to stop at Times Square. I love sports apparel and souvenirs (both sports and city). I like knick knack kind of random things (hard to explain), like small statues and sculptures, paintings, etc. Also going with my girlfriend so any places to get some nice cloths at nice prices.
2 I am curious for some of the best Deli’s…I dont wanna fall into some tourist trap. Are places like Katz, Carnegie, and Stage as great as their reputation? I just want great food. Dont care that Katz is where Sally had her orgasm scene.
1) The best places to the get cheesy souvernir-y things, other than Times Square, is Canal Street, down in Chinatown. I swear, the entire street cries “Buy me!” A little farther down from Canal Street is Pearl River, which has a lot of cheap little knick knacks (trust me, I know what you mean. I am a knick-knack freak). There are a ton of places where you can buy those types of things, so you shouldn’t be hard pressed to find a place. As for clothes, you can try H&M, which everyone seems to go crazy for (there are several locations in the city), or Cheap Jack’s for vintage stuff. There’s always Strawberry’s, which sometimes has some decent stuff, but the place to go lately has been H&M (the one on 34th has an Old Navy next to it that interesting clothes in its displays. There are also several sports stores, and the Manhattan Mall on the same block, so you can hit some stores all in one shot).
2) My current favorite deli is Lenny’s. There are a couple in the city, but the only one I know of is the one on W48th Street, b/w 5th and 6th Avenues. Best sandwiches. It’s sometimes a wait to get your sandwich, but it’s often well worth the wait.
