I wonder if anyone who is interested in fashion, stitching, fabrics, accessories etc noticed that when we?
purchase cloth and give it to a tailor or stitch it ourselves, we cannot get the same magical result as the brand named garments. Do you think it is more to do with fabric than anything else. Where do the brand names get their fabrics from. Do you think the designing done on the various branded garments is far superior than the designs available in the stitching catalogues. Is there any way we can produce nice looking garments at home. Do you feel that the garments stitched at home have a “home made look” rather than a professional look.
All sewing whether it is for clothing, soft furnishings, quilting etc. takes ALOT of practice. If its garments that you are particular about have a look at how shop bought ons are made – take them apart if you have to, and see how they were constructed – it will give you a good insight as to how the professionals do it
The best advice I can give you is to iron everything as you go. It makes a huge difference
