I can’t take my children ANYWHERE because they are afraid of Halloween decorations!?
My son, 4 yrs old, is deathly afraid of all Halloween decor and now I can’t even go to Wal-mart, the supermarket, the pharmacy, Sam’s club (wholesale retailer), the party store. My 2 yr old daughter sees him freaking out so she learned to be afraid of the decorations too.
My daughter’s birthday party is tomorrow and I haven’t been able to buy anything for it! My husband works long hours, especially now he is trying to work extra because business has been slow so he doesn’t come home in time for me to go shopping.
Has anyone else experienced this? What have you done? I am sort of annoyed that EVERY store now has these life size ghouls and witches making all sorts of scary noises and movements!
Well there’s no real easy way round this, the more you avoid going to shops b/c of this then the more their fright will be enhanced when they do see something. I know there are a lot of pretty scary looking things out there in the shops but you really must just let the kids face them. Just keep explaining over and over that these are NOT real, just pretend and there’s nothing to be afraid of. Rush past those aisles as quickly as you can but the more they realise that it’s just a party season and these things are in ALL the shops then the more they will get used to it. Perhaps suggest that he has a halloween party with a few friends (keeping it mild of course), maybe this will change his mind!
